Fantastic news late last night from the U.S. Senate… the chamber voted to proceed on the Matthew Shepard Act – clearing the way for a final vote to add the important protections as an amendment to the Defense Department authorization bill currently under consideration.  The motion passed 63 to 28 with a strong show of bipartisan support.  Clearing the 60 vote threshold stops any Republican filibuster and allows the Matthew Shepard Act Amendment to proceed to final passage, which is expected on Monday.
